Maracanã

Maracanã was once the scene of the most important classics of Brazilian football and received historical moments of international football. Monumental events, such as the thousandth goal of King Pelé in 1969, also took place on the lawns of the Brazilian soccer temple. Inaugurated on June 16, 1950, it has hosted World Cup games that year and a few matches of the 2014 World Cup. It has also hosted matches for the 2013 Confederations Cup, opening and closing ceremonies of the 2007 Pan American Games and the Games Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2016. In addition to sports competitions, Maracanã has already hosted important events such as Madonna, Rolling Stones, Paul McCartney, Tina Turner and Pope John Paul II Masses in 1980 and 1997.
